Discovering a wine that makes your mind light up and the world fade away feels akin to coming across an anglerfish in a very big, very dark ocean; it reveals a path to seeing a bit differently, a bit magically. French wine importer Jeffrey Alpert’s wines have this distinct sensibility; I’ve begun cataloguing them in a trove in my mind called “the French Underground,” a place where I smoke tiny French lady cigarettes, discuss books and art at breakfast, drink pastis at aperitif hour, and wear velvet 24/7. Alpert’s producers’ wines reflect this dream state—adventurous, mischievous, wiley, and ruminative.
On Tuesday April 7, we will host Jeffrey Alpert to discuss the plunder of hunting down producers, guiding their wines across the deep, dark sea, and bringing them to our shelves + will drink plenty of wines alongside. We will taste the bottles of Annie Buiatti, made in an old stone farmhouse in Bordeaux, Stéphane Saillet, a contemporary negoce with roots in Champagne, Domaine Giachino of Savoie romance, and Vindiou’s Crozes-Hermitages that I have been dreaming about for weeks + more. Join us for two hours of French Underground delight (tiny French cigarettes optional).
The evening includes a tasting of 8 wines, a spread of fabulous snacks, and 10% off all bottles featured on the tasting.
BONUS: If you join wine club, you receive 10% off all ticketed events at the shop (limit 2 tickets per event).
