Burgundian Pinot from a Willamette Visionary

Eyrie is a producer that has had unflinching vision since its founding in 1965 in the Willamette Valley, its path now chiseled into the geography of American wine-growing and -making as singular. Today, Eyrie's wines are hailed as some of the best bottlings outside of Burgundy. This week, we're excited to offer you Eyrie's "Sisters" Pinot noir bottling from 2022. Like all of Eyrie's pinots, it is fermented with indigenous yeast, aged in new and neutral oak. The 2022 has shadowy minerality, pencil graphite savor, and woodland berry structure. It's something to age for sure, is delicious now, and will be very fun to check in on next year, the following, and ten years beyond. Invest in three or more for a decade-long journey through Eyrie's intense and lasting vision.

Luis Rodriguez, the Heart & Soul of Ribeiro

Luis Rodriguez is a winemaker whose gravity in Ribeiro—a region of Galicia once cursed by disease pressure, civil war, economic instability and a resulting industry of bulk wine production—is a felt presence, a kind of wise guide shifting the center of winemaking toward serious methods and joyful results. Ribeiro is a place of dramatic topography and abandoned traditions to which Rodriguez has faithfully returned, reviving red wine making with archaic grape varieties like Caiño Longo, Caiño Redondo, Ferrol, and Brancellao, and elevating the great white grape Treixadura to the former glory of its 1600s heyday. We have every cuvée we could get our hands on of these age-worthy wines, including his top releases, each entirely different from the next.

Barolo from the OG Cru

Thanks to The Piedmont Guy, an importer that deals exclusively in the region, we are one of the few shops in the country to receive Fenocchio's 2018 Bussia (current vintage is 2022). Where some Baroli are muscular and brooding, Fenocchio's Bussia is elegant, lifted, joyful. Sourced from calcareous clay soils from 35-year-old vines, the 2018 is fermented for 40 days, aged 6 months in stainless, and then 30 months in large Slavonian casks. This is nebbiolo of mythic status that can be drunk now, but will age beautifully.

Tada Orange Chardonnay, A Japanese Gem

Tada’s Orange Chardonnay is a prism with which to see the course of time and terroir on the Japanese island of Hokkaido. The grapes, which come from young vines planted on alluvial soils, were harvested and de-stemmed by hand, and gently pressed with their skins, left to macerate for 20 days, which provides its deep tangerine hue. The juice was aged in French oak (also providing texture and color) and stainless steel for nine months. The resulting wine is reminiscent of autumn tea—ginger, dried apricot, dehydrated apple, and sandalwood.
