Sidónio de Sousa "Special Cuvée" Sparkling, Bairrada, Portugal 2019

THE WINE: Located in the Bairrada region, Sidónio de Sousa produces its Special Cuvée White from a blend of Bical, Arinto, and Maria Gomes grapes. The wine undergoes a unique winemaking process with natural yeasts and zero dosage, resulting in a sparkling white wine with a minimum of two years of second fermentation in the cellar.

THE PRODUCER: From one of the original select “Baga Friends” comes a portfolio of pure baga wines unlike many others. Sidónio de Sousa, recognized for having amongst the oldest of the baga vines in Bairrada, continues to make wine in the traditional way - using 100 year-old Portuguese oak barriques for his reds and champenois method for his sparklers, resulting in elegant aged (and age-worthy) wines.
