Gail Wines "Doris" Red Table Wine, Sonoma County, California 2022
FROM GAIL WINES:
THE WINE: Our 2022 Red Table Wine is dominated by Barbera from the Madhavan Vineyard on Moon Mountain. In an effort to soften the acidity, we added 10% Merlot from the Pickberry Vineyard on Sonoma Mountain. As we continue to evolve our portfolio, our plan is to bottle all future Italian varietals under the DORIS label. All fermentations went off spontaneously in open-top stainless-steel fermenters. Both the Barbera and the Merlot were aged in varying sizes of neutral oak barrels. The finished wine is definitely Barbera; red-fruited, savory aromatics with a tart backbone of acidity. The Merlot brings Pickberry’s classic blue fruit profile along with its signature menthol to the nose while softening the Barbera’s sharpness.
THE PRODUCER: GAIL wines are sourced exclusively from organically-farmed vineyards in Sonoma Valley. The approach in the cellar is centered around minimal intervention. Fermentations are spontaneous, and the wines age sur-lie in large puncheons and neutral oak barrels, allowing them to build energy, aromatics, and texture without manipulation.
GAIL wines are the namesake, highlighting the vineyards, varietals, and subregions of Sonoma Valley. Production is limited and can vary from vintage to vintage. DORIS, on the other hand, is are table wines in tribute to Dan’s great Auntie Doris. Wines are released seasonally to subscribers of our mailing list. Everything sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
These wines reflect a life’s work. The mission is to create wines that are both special and accessible. It’s more than just a wine label—it’s a celebration of the simple, unpretentious charm of where we live, Sonoma Valley.
