FROM SELECTION MASSALE:
THE WINE: 60% grenache, 40% cinsault. The "La Boutanche" label is a collaborative effort with importer Selection Massale to source tasty and affordable organic, minimalist wines from sought-after producers. Martin Texier began making wine in 2014, after a circuitous journey through various disciplines including the study of economics and a stint in the music world as a DJ (“DJ Sans Soufre”). Following time spent learning the wine trade in NYC through internships at Flatiron Wines and Uva Wines, he returned home to follow in the footsteps of his father, renowned northern Rhône natural winemaker, Eric Texier. This bottling is 60% grenache, 40% cinsault from 30+ year old vines in the Languedoc, vinified for 6 months in concrete tank. Light and bright, bursts of fresh red cherry fruit and pit ramble across a juicy palate that finishes clean and just a touch spicy. Lovely with a slight chill and a vast array of cuisines. Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine.
THE PRODUCER: Martin Texier (you may have heard of his father, Eric, the now famous northern Rhône natural wine producer) began making wine in 2014 after a previous life studying economics. After leaving university, he ventured into music (he is an accomplished DJ) and also spent time in New York City learning about the wine trade here (he held internships at both Uva Wines in Brooklyn and Flatiron Wines in Manhattan, as well as the greatest record store in the world, A1 Records). It was after this that he realized that his calling was to follow in his father’s footsteps and return to the vines.
