Eulogio Pomares "La Galaxia" Rosado, Dão, Portugal 2023

THE WINE: A blend of Alfrocheiro, Jaen and Baga varieties. Each variety gives different nuances to the wine which make it elegant and complex, with an enveloping and fresh mouth. This rosé wine is made in the demarcated region of Dão, which belongs to the province of Beira Alta, in central Portugal. La Galaxia rosé comes from the Quinta da Pellada vines, the Dão vines can be found spread throughout the mountainous area of the Estrela mountain range, which shelters them from the Atlantic wind.

THE PRODUCER: Eulogio Pomares is better known as the winemaker of Zarate; however he has multiple other projects, including this one in the Dão. The grapes come from Quinta da Pellada, owned by Alvaro Castro, where vines co-exist for between 3 and 70 years. The local varieties we use are the Alfrocheiro, Jaen and Baga. Wine cellar work does not adhere to set rules, each year depends on the vintage itself. Grape picking is done by hand with the grape selection carried out on the vine. Alcohol fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats, and according to the vintage, fermentation takes place and the length of breeding is decided upon.
